Artist Highlight: Stephanie Smart

Stephanie Smart is the Artist Highlight this week. We'll be taking a little look at the person behind the music. Today we have a little piece on her inspirations and for good measure, have a look at her in action.

Dont forget Stephanie will be live on the Mic @ our debut event Boys n Girls of Dubstep @ Music bar, Brixton on Saturday 24th July.....just to give you an idea of what to expect check this video of her live in action...

Now let's see where she draws her inspiration from:

"I love the work of those still at it after 20+ years of dedicated and high-quality contribution to the Industry. There are a huge number of influential people on the Club and Rave scene - I have a few cool memories of feeling overwhelmed, even when I was a good few feet away on a couple of occasions. I have proof that it's possible to feel you have learned something from someone just by their very presence, enough energy to drive you to produce a decent lyric or a chorus.

Onto hip-hop, I was so happy to find that in the last 6 or 7 years we've developed a sudden mass of hungry lyrical entrepreneurs in the UK that are helping to break old fashioned stigmas about rap, and UK rap specifically, pushing boundaries and putting out amazing quality music. Whether strong artists get signed or not is a separate thing - they are still successful artists in their own right. The next step after that success is telling everyone else about it. I love the Underground movement. It's a cool journey and inspiring people are everywhere. Its important to also remember that when you go to an event, every single exchange from where you get your stamp, to those "lolly pop, freshen up" folk in the loo's, all the way to the staff that are still there hours after you have staggered home needs organising by others to work properly. Promoters have a huge amount to deal with so although I am not one, I also take inspiration from being around them alot and feeling what's required to be one. I don't think I could do it!"

That just about wraps it up for today. Next time we'll see what she likes about Dubstep and what kind of a setup she has at home....Just remember guys she's a singer...lol.
