Artist Highlight: Stephanie Smart

Stephanie Smart is the Artist Highlight this week. We'll be taking a little look at the person behind the music. Today we have a little piece on her inspirations and for good measure, have a look at her in action.

Dont forget Stephanie will be live on the Mic @ our debut event Boys n Girls of Dubstep @ Music bar, Brixton on Saturday 24th July.....just to give you an idea of what to expect check this video of her live in action...

Now let's see where she draws her inspiration from:

"I love the work of those still at it after 20+ years of dedicated and high-quality contribution to the Industry. There are a huge number of influential people on the Club and Rave scene - I have a few cool memories of feeling overwhelmed, even when I was a good few feet away on a couple of occasions. I have proof that it's possible to feel you have learned something from someone just by their very presence, enough energy to drive you to produce a decent lyric or a chorus.

Onto hip-hop, I was so happy to find that in the last 6 or 7 years we've developed a sudden mass of hungry lyrical entrepreneurs in the UK that are helping to break old fashioned stigmas about rap, and UK rap specifically, pushing boundaries and putting out amazing quality music. Whether strong artists get signed or not is a separate thing - they are still successful artists in their own right. The next step after that success is telling everyone else about it. I love the Underground movement. It's a cool journey and inspiring people are everywhere. Its important to also remember that when you go to an event, every single exchange from where you get your stamp, to those "lolly pop, freshen up" folk in the loo's, all the way to the staff that are still there hours after you have staggered home needs organising by others to work properly. Promoters have a huge amount to deal with so although I am not one, I also take inspiration from being around them alot and feeling what's required to be one. I don't think I could do it!"

That just about wraps it up for today. Next time we'll see what she likes about Dubstep and what kind of a setup she has at home....Just remember guys she's a singer...lol.

DJ/Producer Highlight: Psy:am - Inspirations and Achievements

Psy:am is a talented producer from South London, we're highlighting him this week in the run up to our first event Boys n Girls of Dubstep @ Music Bar Brixton on 24th July 2010 where you can see him play. Read on to find out about his mission and inspirations...

Mission
My aims in dubstep are to spread the sound everywhere I go and push the varying sounds in dubstep, showing people there are so many sides to dubstep.

Inspiration
I’m inspired by a huge range of stuff from hip-hop to drum and bass. Within dubstep there are so many artists pushing the sound. I’m a massive fan of the old garage vibe of El-B and the dark sounds of Burial. I also love the way that James Blake is stretching the sound as well as producers like Pangaea. The quality of releases from the likes of Loefah and Mala is staggering and they always do something new. And for pure dance floor mayhem and intricate production, Joker is really the top of the pile, an inspiration to any producer. Anything that is produced with real quality and effort, regardless of the genre, is an inspiration

Now i leave you quietly with this littlle gem

Rhianna Rude Boy (Psy:am and Stinkahbell Remix)

DJ Highlight: Psy:am

Rub-A-Dubsteppers, this week we are highlighting some of the DJ's who will be playing at Rub-A-Dubsteps 1st promotion on Saturday 24th July Boys n Girls of Dubstep where we've chosen 3 male DJ's and 3 female DJ's to do their ting on the decks...We've already highlighted Soap Dodgers and DJ Raggs over the past few weeks and this week we are introducing Psy:am, a talented DJ and producer hailing from South London. To find out more about him read on.

Based in South London, Psy:am is one of the UK’s newest talents in the dubstep scene, with imminent releases scheduled on both UK and American labels.

Psy:am’s musical journey started back in the days when drum and bass and garage were king. A regular at Fabric and Plastic People, Psy:am quickly became drawn into the underground scene, starting his journey as a disciple of bass . Drawing from the sheer ferocity of drum and bass and more chilled out garage vibes, his style ranges from tracks full of foreboding atmosphere to dance floor igniters.

Listeners to Dubstep FM and Sub FM may be familiar with the track ‘Tick Tock,’ which was the first of Psy:am’s co-produced work with Stinkahbell, a producer whose music has been played at FWD vs Rinse by Plastician himself. El B and J Da Flex are also fans of Psy:am’s work and he has been featured on their popular ‘Nu Levels’ radio show. His latest track ‘I Shall Not Fear’ was recently showcased by Rubba Dub Dubstep in their Soundcloud Sunday compilation of the biggest new tracks.

His prowess on the decks had meant Psy:am has played slots at the leading London club Fabric, headlining student DJ nights and also at other venues in central London. His DJ style very much mirrors his production values, with sets often containing beautifully melodic tunes but not without a peppering of ground shaking jump-up tracks that never fail to inspire an audience.

2010 promises to be a year of breakthrough, please check back here regularly for information on forthcoming shows and releases by Psy:am!

Now as always we give you a little something from our features and today is no different....click da link and enjoy.
