DJ Producer Highlight: Filthy Vicars

Filthy Vicars are a trio of DJ's, Aaron, Sam and Liam who have been steadily making a name for themselves recently, and rightly so as these guys are serious about their shit and not only that they're actually good...really good. Read on to find out a little bit more about the guys behind the decks....
Filthy Vicars started out as Sam and Liam messing round on virtual dj mixing beats jus for fun but very quickly it became something taken much more serious and the bookings started to roll in.

Although they were playing out they felt like something was missing....Real decks, They then proceeded to move onto cdj's and then came the arrival of the 3rd member Aaron B.
Having dj'd for a couple of years previous doing his own thing Aaron brought experience and a bag full of big beats to the vicars, Since then the Filthy Vicars have played many events alongside many big names such as Doctor P, Nicky Blackmarket, Kissy Sellout, whilst holding down residencies for Pipe Down and Lick A Beat.

Mission:

We aim to proceed to get more popularity as dj's and be at the forefront of the dubstep/grime/bass heavy scenes playing all the big raves, we also aim to move into production making our own tracks whilst also djing.

We asked them to do a mix for us and they did....and we are real nice so we're gonna let you have it..innit ;)

2. Kromestar – Jabbajawz
3. F-One – Just Cool Down Man
4. Hitman – Renegade
5. Soul Sinners – Dalek Invasion

Kit list

We all use different set ups, which does make it hard to switch from studio to studio but that sort of thing never really bothers us too much...

We use Nuendo, Logic, Cubase, Albino 1,2,3, OSCar, Korg Legacy, FM8, TC Bundle, Waves Bundles, SSL Bundles, KRK monitors, CD decks, Technics, Serato, Traktor Scratch Pro...

Basically, we’ll try anything new, if its good, we keep it, if its shit it goes in the bin... there’s alot to be said for free software... some very talented people have taken the time to make soft synths for absolutely no charge so we spend a while finding the new ones and seeing what sort of sounds we can make from them....

So there we have it.....That wraps up our coverage of Soul Sinners. I Hope we see you all there on Saturday 3rd July @ Music Bar, Brixton for 'YOU WOT!?' - It's Gonna be DIRTY!!! Simple..

Read on to find out about their inspirations, Achievements and Kit list....This is what they said:

Inspiration
This is always gonna be a very difficult question to answer as there are three of us and we all have
different tastes and background... obviously alot of this overlaps so I guess we’ll go for the stuff we all
agree on....

Reggae – Eek - A - Mouse, King Tubby, Toots & The Maytals, Peter Tosh, Lone Ranger, Yellowman

Drum and Bass – Teebee, Noisia, Klute, Spor, Skynet & Stakka, Kemal & Rob Data, Commix, Eveson, Polar, C4C... this list would be endless...

Hip Hop – Jehst, Premier, Jay Dee, MF Doom, Diamond D, 88 Keys, The Roots, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Necro, Jedi Mind Tricks, Vakill, Cage and more...

Achievements
We dont really think about this too much as we dont think life is a competition but getting noticed
for our drums by LTJ Bukem has got to be right up there, being asked to do remixes for Peter
Bouncers album was also a really big thing for us as he is a legend in loads of different genres... Gaining
sponsorship from the good people at www.thtc.co.uk was a definate turning point for us too, they have
been great.....massive respect to Gav @ THTC...

DJ/Producer Highlight - Crocodile

I've got a dirty secret and because i'm a nice guy i'm gonna share it with you. (cue dirty dubstep laugh)......

When I got sent a link to a crocodile track from magz (our resident talent manager) I knew he must be good....but this made me crank up my sub and skank out like a crazy demented limbless fool; Pure warpy madness and fresh samples for ya ears!!

This week our DJ/Highlight of the week is Crocodile, hailing from North London. Read below to find out a bit more about 'Crocodile' my filthy little Dubstep secret.

Christopher Rhys Field, a.k.a. Crocodile (or Crocs) is a North London based producer who has been
making dubstep since may 2009, armed only with previous experience in making techno/trance and
breakbeat tunes for fun.

A love of electronic music began with four years learning jazz saxophone from age 8, before starting
guitar lessons at 12. Several years later young crocs became enthralled watching Muse clips & DVDs,
collecting their albums and more importantly, becoming obsessed by the sound of Matt Bellamy's
custom Manson guitars with the embedded Fuzz Factories, proximity sensors, MIDI ribbons, laser
lights... which led quickly to an interest in circuitry and the technology side of music, however an
affection for electronica was truly established after dancing to Enter Shikari's Korg-riddled trance
rhythms at the Hammersmith Palais in March 2007.

To date, Crocodile has been in 8 bands, toured spain playing bass in a big band, written numerous
electronic tunes (across genres trance, techno, breakbeat, electronica, chemical, ambient, dubstep,
drumstep, dnb) and has so far made £25 from doing so.

Crocodile is currently expanding operations to include liquid funk and electro house (for each of
which a different alias will be assumed), whilst continuing dubstep.

The current kit list consists of a Korg Kaoss Pad 2, ESX-1 and microKORG, a Fender Jaguar HH, a
circuit bent casio, a Technics FGservo, a Behringer VMX200, Cubase SX3, Ableton Live Suite 8, Reason
4 and a number of VSTs and FX units, with plans to soon add a nanoKONTROL and APC20 for live use.

So now u know a bit about the man check below for a few links:

DJ/Producer Highlight: Nachos

This weeks Producer/DJ Highlight originally born in Romania and now representing Dubstep from Canterbury. Going by the name of Nachos he DJ's and produces Dubstep and has played in clubs all over the world. We asked him to tell us a bit about himself...see below to see what he said.

"Born in Timisoara, Romania, in 1988, I’ve lived most of my life over there. I Started throwing hardcore/rock parties when I was 14 then progressed to DnB parties when I was 16. I left the country to study and started mixing seriously a little over three years ago in the US when I purchased my first DJ console, a Behringer BDJ 2000, and started throwing parties. I have mixed in the US at various parties and in Romania, my native country at local DnB Sessions on 100FM, a local radio station and in two local clubs, Metal Box and Jazz.

I arrived in the UK in September 2007 and I have tried to mix in some clubs but I was always too lazy to record a demo, so I started by holding outrageous parties in my university campus, Canterbury Christchurch University. After I got banned for throwing parties that had more than 150 people in student accommodations, I decided that it was time to take the next step and finally recorded a demo. Of course, the first demo wasn't any good so I never sent it off, but I didn't need to because I have gained reputation from the parties and my friends suggested I start a regular thing, so I sorted out a Romanian Night in The Loft, one of Canterbury's clubs. The night was a complete success, with 60 of us being thrown out after the club shut down because we wouldn't leave. After this night I said, ok, now I’m going to dedicate my time to actually doing something cool, so I finally finished the demo I wanted to send out. ...and I did. A week later, I received a call from the Music Manager of Alberry's, the DnB club of Canterbury, calling me for a test. I went, it went ok, everybody was happy and I got called again and again and again....
Since then I have progressed a lot with my DJ and production skills, I am currently member or organizations/promotion groups such as, Bass-Ment Drum ’N’ Bass & Dubstep, Corrupted Dj's, Fiday Deadly Sins and holding my own nights, the Invigor8 Nights as well as having my own promotion group called Trend Sound, aimed at promoting young artists that compose/sing/mix good music.

My sets and nights consist of styles that I play, including but not limited to:
RnB/Hip-Hop/UK Funky/Funky House/Electro House/Club House/House(all styles)/Dance/Pop/Urban/Dubstep/Drum and Bass/Mash-ups/Indie/Rock
My mixing skills rely on doing 2-3-4 deck mixes, mostly cd, but I can play vinyl if requested for DnB nights. These skills have been confirmed by various DJ competitions that i've entered in, and winning "The Battle of the Student DJ’s" competition, but the biggest one was King of The Decks DJ Competition in which I was the regional winner for the Urban category(rnb/hip-hop/house/dubstep).

I am currently a DJ in most of the major clubs in Canterbury, while being a full-time DJ and hosting my own nights in Alberry’s, Canterbury and playing there almost everyday.

During my club ventures I have played alongside artists such as: Aphrodite, Nicky Blackmarket, Simon 'Bassline' Smith, Slipmatt, Billy Bunter, Erb 'N' Dub, Dub Zero, Nicole Jane, 3rus TRG and others.

My current projects involve more than just mixing and promoting, I currently produce tracks and mash-ups for radio shows or other artists, create flyers/posters for events and also intros/outros/dj tools etc"

So there you have it an introduction to the man Nachos - He's definitely putting the work in..Come back tomorrow to find out more...Till then enjoy the mix and check out his Myspace/Soundcloud etc below.
